Video artist and dance producer Nguyen Hai Yen (Red) imagines a colourful mythic world in this stunning music video for the Vietnam-based electronic band Tiny Giant’s track “NGÀY MỚI” (a new day has come). The short dance film depicts a world in constant motion, where subliminal landscapes “open up when we slumber.”

Norwegian artists to perform contemporary dances

Titled "Jakob", Vietnamese Norwegian choreographer Tony Tran will present the contemporary dance performance to Vietnamese audiences for the first time.

This is the work's first premiere in Tony Tran's home country and Asia, together with the launch of workshops on movement and theatre lighting led by Jakob's artists.

The tour welcomes the presence of choreographer/performer Tony Tran, dancer Knut Vikstrøm Precht and lighting designer Tobias Leira.

Red is a Vietnam based moving-image artist and independent art producer whose practice focuses on multidisciplinary approaches which address the shifting boundaries between different forms of art, fiction and documentary; life and death; human and animal; living beings and spirits. Her practice focuses on reflecting one's landscape by questioning how social-personal memory was constructed. What are the 'gestures' of memory and belief? Her video works were featured at Seashort Film Festival, Fundacion-PROA, White Chapell Gallery (nominated by Hanoi DocLab for the Artist Films International 2019). In 2020, she co-founded MORUA - Since 2020, she has co-directed MORUA, a dance collective and artist-in-residency program based in Hoi An (the centre of Vietnam), aiming to create a focused space and time for next-generation performing/ performance/ interdisciplinary art practitioners to develop their works by researching and exchanging their methods of body-and-movements.

Summer Siesta: 6th Hour Counting from Dawn, by Nguyen Hai Yen, feels outstandingly remote. It shows villagers in some far-flung province with mirrors for faces, so that each reflects the rocks, trees and waterfalls around them. Literally, these figures are disappearing into their own landscape.
